Corpus naturals

why we heart 'em

Sheer formulations of evocative, enticing scents. Fragrance identities that are not often found in ‘natural’ deos.

The mint green is illustrative of the pared-back chic of this brand [plus, it’s one of our favourite colours]. The packaging is super elegant with gold debossing. Their photography is exquisite too, btw. It’s a real treat for our design-loving platform to have this!

chappies wrapper worthy facts

A young brand [we like those!] founded  by J.P. Mastey, born out of the struggle to find ‘natural’ products that performed to high standards sans compromises. With newfound techniques, persistence, and inspiration, it all came together to create CORPUS®.

straål is proud to be one of only two retailers [Skins] in South Africa to be the custodians of CORPUS®. Internationally, you can find them at places like SSense, Selfridges, NOSE Paris, Nordstrom, and the most wonderful Violet Grey. We’re håppy to be in this cohort.

According to the NY Times, COPRUS Cedar Flora is one of Gwyneth Paltrow’s everyday favourite items.

#superstraål

Spotted in Paris at NOSE! What's your favourite scent? Ours is № GREEN. We keep it on our desks for an uplifting sniff during the day.

Alternatively, we love using any of the deos at straål as fragrances by applying it to any of the usual perfume areas.

Fancy a walk through a forest? Perhaps you’d rather feel the sand between your toes while salt water ebbs and flows in the background. Alternatively, let botanical scents carry you away to a greenhouse in bloom. Maybe you’d like sun-washed orange trees in Italy?

CORPUS scent notes are complex and balanced:

No GREEN is undeniably citrussy but mysteriously complex. It is Bergamot, Pink Lemon, Orange Blossom and Cardamom. Fresh, punchy, elegant.

Third Rose ‘brings the roses to one’s cheeks’. Like a greenhouse in bloom, it is Rose, Italian Mandarin, Violet and Cedar. Soft, subtle, citrus and warm wood. Roses, roses, all the way!

California is clean and sunny with unexpected depth and character. It combines Sea Salt, Bergamot, White Musk and Jasmine. It’s like a beach breeze with salty skin…somewhere far in the sunset, the glitter of lights and laughter adorns the moment.

Santalum: Who doesn’t love Sandalwood? A classic modern scent, it brings together sandalwood with earthy undertones from Texas Cedarwood and an amber base.

Neroli is akin to sun-washed orange trees, to ‘honey dripping from the sun‘. Delectable, it evokes Orange Blossom, Bergamot and Ambrette. Where else to find Neroli-based scents to give you an idea? Serge Lutens Fleur D’Oranger; Jo Malone Orange Blossom and Le Labo Neroli 36.

Cedar Flora is bold and audacious. Smoky and warm, blended with wood and the subtlety of floral Jasmine. It is Cedar, White Musk, Jasmine and Guaiacwood [gwy-ack; brings notes of birch, tobacco and burning leaves—a complex, intriguing scent; not as deep as Oud]. Wear it for an air of mystery. Where else do you find Guaiac? In Balmain Ambre Gris, Versace Yellow Diamond and Goutal Paris Vanille Exquise.

Le Botaniste: [we like to use the French] is naturally edgy, reminiscent of a walk through a cool damp forest. Petitgrain and Vetiver is complemented [lifted] by Geranium & Citrus Rind. Petitgrain is fresh and zesty with a bitter edge. Vetiver is grounding: earthy, damp and smokey. Experience Petitgrain in fragrances such as Maison Francis Kurkdjain Amyris Femme and Vetiver in Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire, Escentric Molecules Molecule 03 and Jo Malone Vetyver.

Glycerin

Also called Glycerol. It is a skin-identical ingredient used as a humectant.

An organic compound used as a hair and skin humectant (draws in moisture), as a skin protectant, as a denaturant (removes alcohol from alcohol), as a skin and hair emollient (retains moisture), as a solvent (helps other ingredients dissolve in a solution), for oral care, and to decrease viscosity (thickness).
