CLE Cosmetics.

K-Beauty from California, USA.

Why we [heart] 'em:

CLE is non-traditional. A team of artists, designers, and professionals dedicated to and guided by the belief that beauty lies in embracing your natural self, in finding freedom in fluidity, and welcoming the truths hidden in imperfections. They are real womxn*.

Founder, Lauren Jin, believes that beauty is an expansive medium upon which to connect with womxn*. For her, the concept of beauty always assumed a more ritualistic nature and its perceptions were subjective and adaptable. She wanted to create something that resonated with the modern womxn*, that spoke to the truth that there is no one way to feel beautiful, and no right way to get there.

From that, CLE was born.

Each product within the line is designed to promote a sense of ritual and to support the contemporary womxn with self-care basics as they pursue the fullest expression of their personal power and sensuality.

Their mission: modern products for the modern individual. Designed with purpose and versatility, bearing in mind that the very best products are ones that nurture your most natural state.

Chappies wrapper worthy facts:

  • Their skincare and makeup are curated, sourced, and centered on the latest Korean Beauty technology
  • Individual products embrace minimalism both in their packaging and simple effectiveness.
  • All products are formulated with non-toxic, ethically-made, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients. As a brand we believe the use of animals or animal byproducts in the production of beauty products is unnecessary and archaic.
  • Key ingredients in their formulations (those available on S T R L ?): Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid; Snow Mushroom; Snow Lotus Flower Extract; Niacinamide; Coconut Oil; Blueberry Fruit Extract; Nattō Gum; Bamboo Extract. Ingredients are sourced responsibly.

Certified cool indeed! [Shop CLE Cosmetics]

LEBON Oral Care.

From Belgium; made in France.

Why we [heart] 'em:

The chicest (and most delicious) toothpaste you will ever use. Inspired by a variety of wondrous destinations and the accompanying feelings, flavours, and scents that made those journeys memorable.

Founded in 2015 by a husband and wife team, certified in dermo-cosmetics and professional photographers, respectively, and lovers of nature and the sea. The founders wanted to make a dent in the dental industry with an ethical and inspired-by-nature toothpaste--created for those who value health and well-being. The flavours are their interpretation of remote, inspiring, romantic destinations that they have travelled to together allowing LEBON lovers to indulge in a moment of escapism.

Organic Green Tea is used in the formulations instead of fluoride to naturally protect enamel, while Aloe Vera naturally protects the gums. Papaya Fruit Extract functions to dissolve stains in the Whitening Series.

Their mission is to marry ingredients that are healthy yet effective and to use natural flavours that will turn the 2 minutes a day daily essential into a moment to reflect, refocus and experience a true awareness - this is what they call LEBON Flavorcare™.

Chappies wrapper worthy facts:

  • “Le bon” in French means “The Good”
  • Although not inspired by South Africa, one of the flavours feature Rooibos as an ingredient--that's pretty cool with S T R L ?
  • LEBON is often said to be the La Mer of Oral Care.
  • The flavours are created using essential oils and extracts from an 18th century established perfumer in Grasse, France.
  • Papaya Fruit naturally contains an enzyme called papain. This enzyme is what is responsible for breaking down and dissolving stains on teeth in the Whitening Series.

    Skin Creamery.

    From right here, in SA.

    Why we [heart] 'em:

Slow Beauty, which means "do more with less," is definitely a philosophy that resonates with us. Skin Creamery was founded with this approach in 2014 by Hannah Rubin, a qualified and experienced health- and skin care therapist. Experience in the field led to exposure to quality skincare products and top spas. Here, an appreciation for composition, feel, scent and the unique way in which each product carried a unique sense of wellbeing was fostered. This, along with a commitment to natural, simple and conscious living, led to the creation of Skin Creamery.

The mission: In a world flooded with information, Skin Creamery exists to simplify skincare, stripping it down to the bare essentials that naturally nourish and nurture the skin.

    Chappies wrapper worthy facts:

    • The Skin Creamery ethos is to be kind to the earth and to your skin.
    • Each product is housed in a glass bottle, that not only adds to the luxury feel, but also to the sustainability. Some products also have refill pouches available (currently in strl.shop).
    • The Skin Creamery vision is to instill a daily ritual of simple self-care. The founder envisioned a beautiful product next to the bath or shower - one product for face and body, with an all-over hydrating effect that would not compromise on quality. A year and a half was spent, with a specialising chemist, crafting the Everyday Cream, according to this vision.
    • Each ingredients is selected for its unique healing qualities and ability to easily penetrate the skin.
    • The range is also aimed at "well ageing," which in essence, is a skincare routine that supports skin health and repair. Skin barrier health, first and foremost, before anything else, is essential to happy, healthy skin.

A philosophy of slow beauty certainly gets the  S T R L ? tick of approval [Shop Skin Creamery]

    Beaut.

    From right here, in SA.

    Why we [heart] 'em:

When you google the word “beaut,” a dictionary definition that reads “a particularly fine example of something” will pop up. This is exactly how we feel about the newest addition to the STRL family. Beaut Serums is local to South Africa and female founded, with the founder’s personality and passion for the brand as powerful as the targeted serums themselves. The brand is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, environmentally conscious, good & clean, yet powerful and results driven, and absolutely certified cool by STRL!

The mission: All force and good stuff, no fluff. A line of targeted serums formulated to be extremely potent, delivering targeted results using skin-boosting ingredients. Every single ingredient works like your face depends on it (no “nice-to-have” ingredients here). Simple.

    Chappies wrapper worthy facts:

    • Made in Africa and specially formulated for skin exposed to our unique climate. Together the products brighten, nourish and firm the skin.
    • Kind to skin and to the planet! Packaging is 80% recyclable, with the exception being the dropper lids and screw tops. Instead of using labels on our bottles, we opted instead to print on the glass with ink (lead-free) that still allows for the recycling to occur.
    • The Beaut bottles are striking and very unique - a deep violet glass that adds to this brand’s beautiful aesthetic. This choice was not made for “looks” alone though: the bottles are made from MIRON Violetglass a unique biophotonic glass that works to protect and preserve natural products from harmful UV rays. Ultimately this increases shelf-life.
    • Beaut wants to take you from over-the-top, unfocused and unnecessary, to the bare-minimum, intentional and targeted, taking the guesswork and overwhelm out of skincare, but still giving you everything you may need.
    • The formulations avoid anything that could potentially be irritating - colourants, fragrances (including essential oils), parabens, alcohol, sulphates.
    • It is a well known fact that skincare changes when pregnant to avoid certain ingredients - The Beauts are pregnancy and breastfeeding safe, allowing women who are pregnant to continue with their self-care routines.
